In the last article we discussed some of the most popular worldwide eco-innovations, produced mainly by companies or governments. But, not everyone has access to such resources. Actually, only a privileged few are able to invest in such grand projects.

However, in order to exemplify the fact that innovation does not always require financial resources, we came up with a short list of homemade ideas, which people all over the world are using on a daily basis already. These examples demonstrate that eco-innovations can be accessible and affordable, encouraging you to contribute to sustainability efforts in their everyday lives through simple DIY projects.

1. Compost bin: Create a compost bin in your backyard using a large container or even repurposed materials like wooden pallets. Composting allows you to turn food scraps and yard waste into nutrient-rich soil, reducing waste and providing natural fertilizer for plants.
2. Rainwater harvesting system: Set up a rain barrel or collect rainwater in large containers to use for watering plants or cleaning purposes. This helps reduce water usage and lowers your reliance on municipal water sources.
3. Reused furniture: Give new life to old furniture or items by repurposing them creatively. For example, you can transform old wooden pallets into garden furniture or turn glass bottles into decorative vases.
4. Homemade natural cleaning products: Make your own cleaning solutions using simple ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice. These natural alternatives are safer for the environment, reduce the use of harmful chemicals, and can save money compared to store-bought cleaners.
5. Bicycle-powered devices: Harness the power of pedaling by creating bicycle-powered devices. For example, you can build a bicycle-powered generator to charge small electronic devices or power a light bulb.
6. Plastic bottle irrigation system: Repurpose plastic bottles into an irrigation system for your plants. By puncturing holes in the bottle and burying it near the roots of a plant, it slowly releases water, ensuring efficient watering and reducing water waste.
